Outside the classroom and work, I love to write, read, dance and explore new places. I enjoy learning about other cultures, religions and studying theology. I chose this program because of the incredible opportunities it presents—a chance to further define who I want to be and what, specifically, I want to pursue, first-hand experience, contacts in my field of interest and a chance to enhance my knowledge of global politics. More specifically, the Ford Motor Company’s Program focus on the UN Development Goals places me exactly where I want to work in the future—the UN, any NGO reaching out those in need or within a US government agency where I could potentially promote the creation of partnerships and understanding between people and nations. Although I would love to work for promotion of any of the UN Millennium Development Goals, I’m particularly interested in the Goal 3—promoting equality and empowerment for women globally. With the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights finalized and signed over 60 years ago, I think it’s prime time that every nation accept women as equals and do all in their power to ensure their citizens act accordingly. It’s my duty, as a woman blessed by the Constitution’s protection, to speak and act for those who cannot. It’s too early for me to vocalize exactly what my future will look like; I’m still awaiting a sign to understand my vocation. My professional goals include investigatory journalism and freelancing in Africa, Asia or the Middle East advocating for social development, working in the federal government with foreign relations or going to law school—yet to be determined. I’d like to further define my interest this fall. Most importantly, this internship gives me experience and allows me to put my passions to good use to create understanding in the U.S.—by using the power of the pen—and to advocate on behave if those who need our help abroad.
